Why Use Agriculture Lesson Plans?

Agricultural education, the teaching of land management and agriculture through Agriculture lesson plans, guidance and hands on experience, is often taught in high schools and colleges, especially in the farmland states where agriculture plays a large role in community life. Agriculture lesson plans are often used by teachers to help them plan out what to teach the students each day, and can include things like trips to local farms and ranches, projects that involve raising animals and growing crops, and shop classes that teach how to operate and maintain heavy farm equipment. In fact, in some areas agriculture education begins in elementary schools and carries on through middle school and high school.

Elementary school agriculture lessons, taught in both public and private schools, often include such things as farming and soil conservation, plant and animal biology, and lessons on how plants and animals grow. Higher level education often expands into areas like production and marketing, while college level Agricultural education lesson plans often train students to conduct research, teach and inform the public about food and other agriculture related topics.

Classroom instruction plays a large role in agricultural education. This is where students learn the basic concepts of agriculture and farming. While much of this teaching occurs inside a classroom, there are many opportunities for the students to get hands on experience at local farms by helping farmers with their livestock and crops. Some agriculture classes and organizations, such as the Future Farmers of America, helps to raise awareness of livestock and agriculture by having the students raise animals. The student is responsible for taking care of all aspects of the animal’s needs, from feeding to veterinary care. These animals are sometimes sold at auctions at the end of the school year.

Overall Agriculture lesson plans are a great way to teach students about the many intricate things involved in agriculture, from how to maintain farm and shop equipment, to how to care for specific types of farm animals, to how to properly run a farm or ranch with the smallest impact on the environment. The things the students learn in these classes enable them to grow up to become farmers and ranchers, with the full range of knowledge required to be successful.
