Use Police Tactical Gear For Maximum Protection

Police tactical gear is the modern day suit of armor for our governmental protection forces. It is designed with two things in mind: maximum protection under the caveat of maximum mobility. It must be light-weight, provide quick access to all important equipment – primarily weaponry – and not restrict movements through tight locations.

In many dramatic movies, the hero confronts his enemy by tearing off his helmet, throwing off his bullet-proof vest, and defending himself with only the equipment God gave him. In real life situations, including those faced by the police, this is the height of foolishness. Any situation involving the police, even the routine “safe” situations like pulling a car over for a traffic violation, directing traffic, or casing door to door, can immediately turn into a full-blow tactical situation involving firearms. In these situations, the safety of the police officer is of paramount importance, and he will need every edge to make sure that he survives without injury. This is particularly true for tactical situations, involving potential or known threats, including extracting an armed criminal from a residence, performing a drug bust, or dealing with an armed robbery.

Many designs for police tactical gear start with the vests and pants. In this case, “the good guys wear black” for minimum visibility while allowing for a common appearance to help identify fellow officers. The material is designed not to snag, to offer skin protection, and in the case of bullet-proof vests, to provide protection against light firearms. The guns and holsters are generally the next specification. Guns are chosen to carry the maximum number of rounds, to have the most reliability (which is why most enforcement pistols are revolvers) and to have appropriate stopping power, all with the lightest weight possible. The general rule is that you should be able to stop an “unprotected” person (no vest, no barriers) with a single shot. This usually means a minimum caliber of 0.38. Some departments specify a higher caliber or special bullets if they regularly deal with situations involving shooting through car doors are other obstacles. The holster must be designed to positively hold the gun through all ranges of movement, but to allow easy and quick gun extraction when needed.

Other police tactical gear includes a range of equipment including a rail-mount flashlight with the option to attach to a pistol, tactical boots for difficult terrain, a folding knife as alternate weaponry, and a range of other items necessary for the specific needs of the pertinent law enforcement agency.

If you are specifying the equipment for you law enforcement department, investigate the wide range of police tactical gear available. Check the specifications of the police tactical gear to match the environment of your agency.
