Time Wasters That Cost Property Managers Money

by | Jun 21, 2013 | Real Estate

It is vital for all property management teams to stay organized.  If they fall behind in their daily tasks, then property owners are out a lot of money due to inefficiency.  There are tons of little things that waste a lot of time in all professional property management offices.  Real estate investors need to be observant of time wasters within the company that is managing their real estate to ensure they are not spending unnecessary money.  Hidden time wasters that can cost property managers a bundle of money are as follows:

Equipment

The most obvious time wasters are in plain sight.  However, most managers are not even aware these things are eating away at their profits.  Outdated technology that looks like it came from the Stone Age will cost tons of unnecessary money.  Typewriters, fax machines, and other equipment are old news.  These things take a lot of time, and they just are not worth the effort when email and software programs can handle the work with more accuracy in half the time.  Copy machines are also a waste of time.  These things cost thousands of dollars in some cases, and they are expensive to operate when you consider toner and paper costs.  With everything becoming digitalized, property owners will save much more time and money by putting their documents on disks or by emailing them.  Signatures are not a problem with going digital because documents can be signed in electronic format.  Property owners could save thousands of dollars each year by eliminating old equipment.

Organization and Time Management

When you hire a property manager in Little Rock, you need to look at how well they perform their daily duties.  Offices that are unorganized waste tons of time, and time is money.  Lost documents, misplaced items, bad organization, and angry tenants who are frustrated with the way the management company is running things does not bode well for the company.  Real estate investors will be in for more trouble than they care to have if they sign up with a company that does not conduct their daily business practices in a systematized manner.  Employee time management is also a significant time waster.  Employees who are browsing Facebook, playing games online, or taking personal phone calls during working hours are hurting the company.  Time management policies should be in place to ensure employees are actually doing their work instead of other things when they are on the clock.
