Mistakes To Avoid When Buying Yard Trailers

by | Dec 17, 2019 | Boat Trailers

If you own a marina or a boatyard, it is very likely that a large part of your work requires the use of high capacity yard trailers. These are durable; solid trailers should be able to last for decades of use with just a bit of regular maintenance.

As with any type of equipment, all yard trailers will eventually need to be replaced. If you are in the market for a new trailer for work at the boatyard or marina, there are a few mistakes to avoid when making a purchase.

Not Shopping Around at Different Manufacturers

The internet makes it easy to shop around and find US-based manufacturers of both yard and road trailers of all types and sizes. It may be tempting to stick with a local company, and they may ultimately be the best choice, but it is still a good idea to spend some time looking around online and learning about different manufacturers.

Not Considering All the Options

There are two different categories of yard trailers. These include self-propelled and towable. Both can be hydraulic, which makes securing the boat in place an easy procedure.

The towable trailer requires an additional piece of equipment to move the trailer. This also makes maneuverability a bit more of a challenge, particularly with the larger and longer boats in the yard. When space is a factor, the self-propelled trailers provide greater maneuverability. In addition, many of these trailers have optional cameras for full 360-degree visibility, and the position of the operator station allows for a clear line of sight to move the boat and trailer with one operator.

Considering the pros and cons of the various models and sizes allows the buyer to choose the right trailer for the budget and the boatyard.
