For anyone having thought about, or currently considering dermal fillers to minimize the effects of things like aging and the sun, it is crucial to carefully examine the options available and the benefits of each. The med spa and cosmetic surgery industry is booming. There are so many options available that it can become confusing to those who don’t know what they are looking for or how to best select the products that work with their problem areas. One of the most popular (and most effective) skincare injectable is known as Juvederm. Juvederm, available in Chicago and around the world, is best known for its natural looking results and pain-free procedure.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is used by many people around the world. It is a dermal filler that consists of a naturally occurring compound called Hyaluronic Acid. This product is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other skin folds such as:

    * Loose skin under the eyes (eye bags)
    * Labial folds (smile lines)
    * Nasolabial folds (frown lines between the eyes)

To date, there are four (4) types of Juvederm available. They are”
1. Juvederm ultra
2. Juvederm ultra plus
3. Juvederm XC
4. Juvederm Ultra Plus XC

What are the differences between each of the four?

The basic makeup of each of the four Juvederm products is the same. However, the XC includes lidocaine to make the injection pain-free and the Ultra is a stronger formula designed for patients with deeper or more severe wrinkles. Only a dermatologist or licensed provider can determine which type is best to use.

In most situations, patients are required to purchase a full syringe of the product. However, it is possible to store whatever has not been used in the first treatment – unused product is normally stored at the med spa until it either expires or is used up.

Experts do not recommend waiting extended periods of time between applications as Juvederm has been known to dry out and the syringe may become contaminated.

How does the procedure work?

A licensed healthcare provider that offers Juvederm in Chicago will insert a needle into the area being treated. This will cause the filler to be injected into the soft tissue. Depending on how large of an area is being treated; a full syringe or less may be required. Most patients report feeling no pain, however, ice packs and numbing agents can be used if needed.
