Flying on private jets, what to expect

When a person flies commercially it is the airline that sets the schedule and the destination, when you useprivate aviation services it is just the opposite, the passenger calls the shots.

Prior to selecting the aircraft, the customer will consult with the charter company and provide full details of the flight plans as seen by the passenger, the destination, the size of the entourage, the baggage that will be aboard and any special needs such as pets. With this detail the charter company can recommend the perfect aircraft for the charter.

Although private aviation services do not necessarily fly any faster, you often get to your destination quicker because you will have a direct route, there will be no intermediate stops. The ground-time is also minimized on both ends, you can drive to the steps of the aircraft, alight your car, board the aircraft and you’re away. At the other end the process is similar, you land and taxi to general aviation where you are met and you leave the airport.

With commercial flying you go to the airport which they go to, your selection is the closest commercial airport to your ultimate destination. There are many regional airports in the US and no doubt there is one closer to your destination than the airport used by the commercial carriers. Regardless of what airport you take off from and land at, you will be accommodated at general aviation which allows private aviation services to avoid baggage weigh in and X-ray and minimal waiting time on the tarmac.

A commercial airport is often selected as the destination airport because it may actually be more convenient as they usually have high-end lounges and VIP facilities. These facilities can be used for meetings, after which the passenger can re-board and return to either the original destination or elsewhere.

Once aboard, the private jet will always be more comfortable than even first class accommodation on commercial aircraft. All the seats are usually leather recliners but as the private jets are highly customizable, the interior set-up can be modified to suit the needs of the passengers. Many private jets have multiple lavatories, one of which may be a shower. The interior can be arranged so there are areas set aside for business, lounging and resting.
