Digital Printing: Inexpensive, Quality Production

by | Jun 27, 2016 | Printing

Printing is a revolutionary way of reproduction. Before the invention of a printing press by Gutenberg (1398 – February 3, 1468) in 1439, the only way to copy a manuscript or book was by hand. His press revolutionized the ability to print and copy material. Later a different methods of copying emerged as machinery made printing more accessible. However, it was not until 1953, that Remington-Rand introduced the public to the first high-speed printer. This marked the beginning of a change in the overall approach to printing in general and a movement along the path into the technological world of digital printing

What Is Digital Printing?

Printing digitally is one component of the modern high-tech revolution. This form of printing is the youngest, embracing both laser and ink-jet printing. Unlike its predecessors, printing digitally does not require the use of a plate or other similar item. Instead, this printing method relies on sophisticated graphic software and digital files to translate or transfer the image or text onto the proper format.

The operator of the printer or printing company in Chicago receives the file on a disc or a memory stick. He or she may also receive the file as part of an email. The individual then uploads (disc or stick) or downloads (email) the file into the right program. The software on the computer and integrated with the printer then produces the image with which the printer (human and machine) needs to work to create the final product.

Advantages of Digital Printing

Printing digitally is popular for several reasons for customers and printing companies. They know it:

  • Is fast with one pass through the printer resulting in a full-color print
  • Requires less time to print out a few or several hundreds
  • Is less expensive than other forms of printing
  • Does not require the changing of plates making the turnaround time faster – reducing the time spent by the printing company on this chore
  • Can print on demand. This allows digital print companies to accept runs that are not pre-determined.

Offset still produces higher quality. However, with the quality of the final product improving all the time, the latest technology is fast becoming a popular means of production for small and large scale print sales.

Digital Printing

Printing continues to evolve over the years. Advances in print technology result in improved methods and techniques in the process. Today, customers in Chicago – both individuals and groups, benefit from the use of modern printers and software. They can customize, individualize and make truly unique items. Digital printing allows print companies to provide their customers with a wide array of quality products quickly and inexpensively.
