Learn How to Prepare for Liposuction in Chicago: A Quick Guide

by | Feb 2, 2022 | Health

Liposuction in Chicago has been a popular cosmetic procedure for removing unwanted fat from various areas in the body that don’t respond to exercise or dietary changes. The procedure has been used for decades with much success. Patients preparing for liposuction will often be told to do the following to prepare for the procedure.

Blood Work

The plastic surgeon should require their patients to undergo blood work. Since liposuction uses light sedation methods, the surgeon must make sure their patients can tolerate general anesthesia.

Stop Taking Some Medications 48 Hours Prior to the Procedure

Liposuction candidates that take blood thinners or aspirin should not take this medication for 48 or longer before the procedure. People who take these medications are at a higher risk of bleeding and should consult with their medical doctor to make sure it’s safe to stop taking the medication even for a few days.

Stop these Actions 12 Hours Before Surgery

Plastic surgeons want their patients to stop smoking or vaping before the surgery. They also require patients to not eat or drink leading up to the surgery. These restrictions are in place to protect the person while they’re under anesthesia.

Schedule a Ride

Because liposuction requires anesthesia, the patient won’t be allowed to drive themselves home. Schedule a ride to and from the plastic surgeon’s office the day of the procedure.
