Texas whisky is comparatively new in the market. In the summer of 2009, it was the first legal whisky made within the state of Texas. The whisky is still often considered the best, despite the fact that many choices are available now. There are already around 100 distilleries in Texas today, but the Texas Whisky Association is trying to define the exact definition of this beverage.
What Is Texas Whisky?
Texas whisky is a product of a passion for fine spirits and a desire to experiment. It is distinct not just from other whiskies within the state, but also from other craft distilleries.
Dan Garrison is the founder of the Garrison Brothers Distillery that produces the beverage. They are the ones that built the first whisky distillery in Texas. The grain is the initial step in the making of Garrison Brothers whisky and other mixtures. They are used and cooked together before they are fermented in open air.
What Makes Texas Whisky Different From Kentucky Whisky?
As compared to Kentucky whiskies, Texas whiskies have a much deeper and richer color. A straw color characterizes Kentucky bourbon. The weather difference between the two states is directly responsible for that. Kentuckians experience less drastic temperature fluctuations throughout the year due to the colder climate.
Whisky matures very slowly in colder climates. Kentucky’s humidity also results in slower, blunter maturation. Texas, on the other hand, experiences drastic temperature changes and is very dry. Nights are cooler than the days. The huge difference in temperature in the barrel causes the liquid to expand and react with the wood. Texas has a consistent maturation process while Kentucky has almost none.
