6 Helpful 2017 Solar Eclipse Tips and Ideas

by Aline Algarin | Apr 14, 2016 | Eclipses

In August of 2017, most of the United States is going to enjoy a rare total eclipse of the sun. The last time a total eclipse occurred was in 1979, and many people today were not even alive then, or they were so young they cannot remember. The 2017 solar eclipse is something to be enjoyed and appreciated with friends and family and here are 6 helpful tips for getting the most from this special event.

1. Put in for Vacation Time Soon

As soon as possible, take a vacation day or schedule the day off with your employer. Don’t wait until June or July of 2017 or you could be in for a big disappointment. Your family will appreciate you taking this day off. If you can’t put in for time off until 2017, leave a reminder on your Google or online calendar so you can receive an email far ahead of time.

2. Plan Ahead but Be Flexible

You never know what the weather is going to be like months in advance. It’s possible you may have to deal with a cloudy or rainy day and this can put a serious damper on your eclipse plans. In other words, it’s a good idea to have a “plan B” for the 2017 solar eclipse. This is a good way to avoid disappointment.

3. Involve the Entire Family

Everyone can have fun when you hold a special eclipse event. Make sure to include things for the kids to do, as they can become bored or restless easily. This is good day to spend quality time with your loved ones.

4. Enjoy a Long Weekend

Did you know the eclipse is going to happen on a Monday (August 21st)? If you take this day off you can have a three day holiday. Maybe you’d like to take a short trip or go camping? There are many fun things you can do on a long weekend, especially if you plan it far ahead of time.

5. Concentrate on the Eclipse

A solar eclipse only lasts for a few minutes, so if you are throwing a special event, plan to have everything come to a halt during this time. Turn the music off and get everyone together. To enhance the experience.

6. Be Safe

Looking at a 2017 solar eclipse can be just like looking into the sun, except it’s not painful. In fact, you can do damage to the eyes if you are not careful. Make sure to use approved solar eclipse viewing glasses. They are very inexpensive so you can afford to order enough for everyone.
